Wednesday Novena at Baclaran, with Dad and Mom 🙏

This week we tried the 3:30PM schedule, this time with Dad. A bit more crowded than the 7AM, but still manageable. We found a good spot.

Parking? Not hard either. Cars were coming and going, so we got a spot quickly. 🚗

There’s something special about going to church with your parents. Mom last time, with Dad this week. Grateful we can still do this together.

Tip: if you’re bringing seniors, 7AM is still the least crowded, but the afternoon works too. Parking is easy since cars keep coming and going.

Tried the 7AM schedule today, and it's the sweet spot. Mabilis ang parking, light ang traffic, and devotees were just starting to arrive, kaya relaxed ang pasok namin. Malaking bagay 'yan kapag kasama mo ang magulang mo.

Every time the whole church raises their hands for the blessing, nakakataba ng puso. Ang daming tao, ang daming dalang intensyon, pero iisa ang dasal.

Tip: if you're bringing seniors, go early. 7AM na kami from now on. 😊

First Wednesday of October at Baclaran: Standing Room Only

Last October 7, the first Wednesday of the month, I made my way to Baclaran with mom Gloria for the novena. 

The National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help on a bright Wednesday, with devotees filling the steps and plaza.

My mom first brought me to the Redemptorists in the mid-2000s. And my devotion is as strong as ever. 

I always pause to look at the magnificent facade. The concrete steps, the tall white cross, the rose window, and the three arched doorways have not changed in decades. 

Inside, it was standing room only. 

Standing at the back during the novena. Screens along the columns carry the prayers in Tagalog so everyone can follow.

Hearing that many voices praying together is something I never get used to.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary, so it felt like the right time to come back, bring my petitions and thanksgivings, and start the month well.

Kung matagal ka nang hindi nakakadalaw, a Wednesday in Baclaran is worth the trip. Come early if you want a seat, bring a Jisu, and have patience for the traffic.

November 11 Memorial Mass

Magandang araw, mga kaparokya. Sa darating na ika-11 ng Nobyembre ay magkakaroon ng Memorial Mass na gaganapin sa ika-6 na gabi na misa. 

Ang paglalagay ng Memorial Mass para sa mga kaluluwa ng mga yumaong SGAP Parish Priests at PPC Officers ay magandang kaugalian na hindi ginagawa sa karamihang parokya. Darating din ang panahon na tayo naman ang mangangailangan ng panalangin at pag-alaala - lahat tayo ay mamamatay at tutungo sa inaasam nating kabilang buhay. Kaya't ang lahat ay malugod na iniimbitahan na dumalo lalo na ang mga PPC members sa nasabing gawain. Maraming salamat po!

Thats on the shrine website. When we got there at 1130am, found out theres an 11am mass. I suggest you check with the parish office for changes to the schedule.

Fasting and Abstinence

Today is Ash Wednesday. 

When do we fast and abstain?

Because what is small for me can be big by your standards, here is the definition of fasting  - eat 1 full meal, and 2 small meals (that when combined do not equal a full meal). 

Advise your cook that it will be no meat for you every Friday until Good Friday. Forgeting is not an excuse. It’s negligence 🙂🙃

18 months into the pandemic, the Saint Gabriel Sunday masses still get an average of 18 views. 

Sadly, our online community didn't grow.

What are we not doing well?

The celebration is as Holy as those in other parishes.

The Homily of Fr. Adrian is as interesting as that of Bishop Ambo.

The choir sounds alive and great.
